The Yeshe Buddhist Centre
Yeshe Buddhist Centre

We are a thriving Buddhist group in the Mahayana tradition, based on the Cartmel Peninsula between Kendal and Barrow In Furness. We are part of the FPMT family (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition), an international network of centres, which was the vision of Lama Thubten Yeshe, and whose director is now Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

We are closely connected with Jamyang Centre, London, whose resident teacher, Geshe Tashi Tsering, visits us to lead courses regularly. Geshe Tashi is renowned for his warmth, clarity and humour, with which he makes complex subjects relevant and accessible to western students. He is the creator and teacher of the Foundation of Buddhist Thought, a 2 year distance learning course on the basics of Tibetan Buddhism’.

Yeshe Buddhist Centre extends a warm welcome and support to all those who are interested in learning about Buddhism and making it relevant to everyday life. We offer a programme of courses, talks and social events, both for the committed practitioner and for those who simply want to probe the ‘big questions’ and find out a little about the Buddhist approach.

We are based in a lovely part of the UK, on the fringes of the Lake District National Park, and close to Cartmel’s ancient priory. It is a wonderful place for peace and reflection and exploring both the outer and the inner world.
